Duck Cottage, Flamborough

The cottage is ok. A bit dated and tired. It was as described and all that was available when we booked

This must be our fourth visit at least and it feels like home from home. The cottage is comfortable, provides everything you need, and gives access to lovely coastal and countryside walks. We've given Sykes a mediocre rating because they are so difficult to contact this in no way reflects on the accommodation.

Basically fine, if a bit tired. The bedlinens were not very comfortable especially the plastic undersheets which were so unpleasant we had to remove them. But the location was great and it was perfectly OK for a short break

We loved Duck Cottage, it was totally different to our home and super cosy. It was nice being in the centre of Flamborough and we did a lovely walk from North to South Landing. On our last morning we saw loads of seals. Owners of the cottage are super friendly and would recommend.

Great cosy 16th Century fishing cottage situated in the heart of Flamborough. Pubs, shops, CoOp, bakery, butcher within a few yards. Easy access to Flamborough Head, Bridlington, Filey and of course Flamborough.

Lovely comfortable cottage. Suggest an improvement to the shower or the provision of a shower curtain .

This is a lovely quaint vintage style cottage in the beautiful village of Flamborough. We enjoyed our stay here. Downstairs is all one room with the main area being the living room come diner and a tiny kitchen area at the back of the room with all facilities needed only room for one person at a time in the kitchen area. The stairs are steep as noted in the description and the stairs to the upper floor are very steep so not suitable for very young children or anyone low in strength or unsteady on their legs. Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. The bathroom has a large bath and although there is a shower attached to the taps this is not freestanding you need to stand in the bath and hold the shower head and regulate the temperature with the taps. All rely on the immersion heater it took us a while to get to grips with it. It does not seem to be able to heat enough water in one go for a bath. We eventually worked out that if we ran the bath then pressed the boost button, waited about 45 minutes and ran some more water it was possible to get a warm enough bath with a reasonable amount of water in it. A free standing electric shower would be a great addition to this cottage. There is a small courtyard at the back with table and chairs. The cottage is made I think from the traditional chalk and dust and bits fall so be prepared to dust before you sit. The cottage is in a great place in the village. There is a large Coop just around the corner, two very good Fish and Chip shops and a pub serving lovely meals all within a very short walk. The beaches and cliff paths are a longer walk or a short drive away. The owners responded quickly when we needed to ask questions about the immersion heater. We will definitely consider visiting again.

I'm not a fussy person with high expectations but elements of this house were really not good enough. The house has a musty smell which I can accept, but the chair infront of the tv has aclearly visible stain on the cushion going right through to the other sidfe that smells unmistakeably of stale urine. The kettle is unuseable due to the amount of scale we got fed up of picking it out of our mouths , and so we decided to boil a pan for hot water, only to find that the pan had bits of old onion stuck to the sides. Similarly cutlery had bits of old food crust on, and we found an old best before september meat packet in the cupboard under the sink. I can accept a few cobwebs but there are far too many to feel like anybody cares about this house. I am a regular user of holiday cattages, not all perfect, but this is the first time I've ever felt I had to give a negative review. The lack of cleanliness can be put down to lack of care, but the kettle and above all the armchair are a disgrace.

The cottage was clean and comfortable and well equipped. The kitchen was much better equipped than in other places we have stayed in. Good location for getting out and about. The only off putting thing was the car parking situation. All the near by spaces always filled up, so we ended up having to park some distance away, which meant several trips hauling luggage on arrival and departure days.

The only downfall for this cottage is the sofa it is so tatty and well used it spoilt the room .

Pros comfy bed, perfect position of cottage in village , quirky layout , well stocked kitchen. Cons could do with a shower screen, stairs could be a problem for the less able. Would stay again.

Cottage in a good position and is very quaint Plenty of utensils in the kitchen. The stairs to the second floor are steep but if you come down backwards they really are not an issue as the steps themselves are wide

Yet another good week we will be staying again

We very much enjoyed our break in Flamborough which has a good range of opportunities for eating out and buying provisions. Duck Cottage is very quaint and cosy, with a well equipped kitchen.

Lovely little cottage in a fantastic spot! Lots of walks and in easy reach of other seasside resorts for trips out. Plenty of pubs and restaurants and great fish and chip shops. Local Coop closeby. Very helpful owners as well! Wouldn't hesitate to go again...

We were very dissapointed with Duck Cottage the living kitchen area is very small and dark I would liken it to something out of a Catherine Cookson novel. The back yard should not be advertised as somewhere to sit out in as it was in need of a good clean out and makeover . Having booked holiday accommodation with Sykes for the last 20yrs this fell way below your usual standard, if this was my first booking with you i would not choose to book through you again, However because we have booked though you in the past and not been dissappointed before we will use you again. regards Kath Nixon

The cottage is really cute and traditional, which we loved. The staircase is steep and the floors are a bit creaky, but all adds to the charm. The only thing that I would have liked is a proper shower, apart from that it's a really lovely cottage, and despite been close to a pub it was very quiet.

Very cosy and comfortable cottage. Extremely well situated for visiting the surrounding areas. Proximity to food shops very useful. Bedding and towels were good quality and beds were very comfortable. The shower was frustrating to use as it was difficult to get the right temperature . Adequately clean. Although we were warned about the steepness of the stairs, we would not choose to stay here again because if this.

I would recommend Duck Cottage we had a lovely time lots of lovely walks around.

Very nice cottage, great location, surprisingly big inside, well stocked kitchen, good Freeview TV and selection of DVDs, just needs a proper shower installing, didnt need the car all week, lots of really good walks, really pretty coast line, lots of hidden coves and great views, lots of birds and we saw seals close by to the lighthouse beach.

The sofa as seen better days felt like you was sat on the floor could do with replacing. Every thing else was great and met expectations have stayed here before and will stay again. Great location.

Lovely quaint cottage, very warm and cosy. Beautiful scenery and walks on the doorstep, ideal for nature lovers. The owners were very welcoming and helpful, will definitely be staying here again.

We had a great week. The cottage was very comfortable, snug and warm on a cold April day, with a nice place to sit outside on a warm day. It suited us just fine. The Coop was just round the corner along with other shops in the village we had all we needed on our doorstep. We walked along the cliffs in all directions and just left the car where we'd parked it until the last day of the week. It was good to see the gannets quite close by on the clifftops where they were gathering grass for nesting material. Other birds were all staking claims on the cliffs.

The cottage is in a nice place to get to other towns and beaches etc but sadly the property is very tired and wasnt as clean as would expect On seeing others and comparing it could do with a refurb we own a large building & property company . Furniture could do with replacing foam and comfort has expired downstairs carpet & rug was in need of machine cleaning Found slug trails side of the arm chair near the tv

The location, because the weather was not great rained everyday the cottage was near to the shops, all the pubs, even the bus stop, so you was not walking far to get wet .

Cottage is well located for exploring the local area. Unfortunately the local pub is very loud on a Friday night until midnight, which didnt suit us with our children. Im sure its ok for others, and its nothing the cottage owners can do about it. The cottage is lovely and is well equipped with board games, kitchen equipment etc. We found the shower wasnt great, and feel the cottage could benefit from a better clean in between letsprior to people staying

Flamborough is a hidden gem of a place everyone is friendly the dog and duck pub serves up good food and drinks at very reasonable prices. Perfect as a base if you like walking or just to explore the area

I found the cottage reasonably clean and comfortable. Lack of a shower wasn't too much of a problem as I used the hand held shower over the bath but as mentioned by others it was difficult to get a constant water temperature. The availability of parking spaces on nearby streets was a concern but I did manage to get a 'space' most days on Allison Lane, glad I have a small car. Some intrusive noise from the nearest pub 2 dozen steps or so from door to door on weekend evenings for a while but the worse noise was my last night, on the Friday. Live music in the pub was incredibly loud, went on until midnight, then customers stood outside for another hour chatting and laughing. Had to have the bedroom window open as the weather was hot this week. However they did finally decide to go home and I got some sleep eventually! This aspect of the cottage location would really put me off booking it again, unfortunately. My sister joined me later in the week and we ate out at the Rose and Crown pub where we had a fantastic meal their fish pie is delicious very reasonably priced, and also at The Seabirds Restaurant, another good meal there. However, the cottage is a good base from which to explore the surrounding area and for nearby cliff walks. My favourite was to park at Thornwick Bay and walk north to the RSPB reserve at Bempton cliffs. The views were stunning all the way and the photographic opportunities of the seabirds at Bempton amazing.

A nice cosy, quiet cottage ideally situated for exploring this part of Yorkshire. Very clean and comfortable and equipped with everything you'd need. Small supermarket, two pubs and a restaurant very close by. Perfect!

We had a really good relaxing break at Duck Cottage. The location was great with lots of local amenities in the village and close to the coast. The nearest pub is only a 15 second walk from the front door and serves some good value meals. The cottage was very quaint yet reasonably modern considering its a 17th century building.

A really lovely quaint cottage, close to the coast with very good local amenities. The stairsladder to the attic room are steep but presented no problem for older children. They loved the upstairs space. Would go back again.

A beautiful cottage in a fantastic location. It was a touch of luxury with really super hosts. A perfect location for exploring a beautiful area.

Duck Cottage is small but atmospheric. It is a handy base for Scarborough, Flamborough and Bridlington, and even as far as Hull. The village has great small shops and nice pubs. In early September, the gannets at nearby RSPB Bempton Cliffs are amazing. A good week chilling out.
